Welcome to the website of Lassiter Junior Cross Country.

The club is for boys and girls from school grades 5-8 who are interested in running either cross country or track.  There are two seasons, cross country in the fall and track in the spring.  The purpose of the club is to introduce children of all abilities to distance running in an atmosphere that is fun, competitive, and one that will teach them about the sport.  The program is associated with Lassiter High School, but you do not need to be a future Lassiter student to participate in the program. 

The coaches hope that they will provide an environment that you and your child will find rewarding. It is very much our hope that each parent will become involved in supporting the coaches at practices and at the meets.  In this way we believe that we will develop a very successful club for your child.

The club formed in the fall of 2008 in time for the cross country season, starting with a roster of 39 runners, we held three practices a week and participated in 6 meets finishing the season by participating in the Georgia State USATF Junior Olympic meet.

We hope all of you had a great summer and stayed cool.  It certainly went by fast.  We plan to start our 2010 Junior Cross Country season with an informational meeting and brief practice on Sunday, August 15th at 3 pm at the Lassiter HS Track near the Trojan House and concession stand.  See a link below to the registration form and jersey order form.  Please bring these with you to the meeting/practice.
 
We intend to have practices on Tuesday & Thursday from 6 to 7 pm at McCleskey Middle School, located at the corner of Shallowford Road and Maybreeze Road, and on Sundays from 3-4 at the Lassiter HS Track.  There will be approximately 4 meets, usually on Saturdays with 2 possible home meets during the week.  The season runs from mid-Sept to mid-Nov.  The post-season USATF Junior Olympics meet is tentatively scheduled for mid-Nov.

We are a USA Track & Field sanctioned youth club.  Cross-country youth meet distances are typically either 3K (1.8 miles), 2 miles or 4K (2.5 miles) depending on the meet and age groups.
Please encourage your young athletes to run 20 minutes 2-3 times per week until the first practice.  This will help to get everyone off to a good start and reduce injuries as we ramp up our training.  Don't forget to start out slowly to warm-up and to static stretch after running.

Our goal is to introduce middle schoolers to running sports and serve as preparation for high school.
We are a volunteer organization and need your support.  Please consider helping out as coach, practice chaperon or meet helper.  We also need help maintaining our website.
